What Went On During The First Weekend of the Sahrqiah Season

The Sharqiah Season kicked off on Thursday night and turned to be a huge success as expected; in which thousands of visitors made it despite the unstable weather of high winds and slight rain.

Visitors were treated with musical performances, skateboarders show, motorbikes and fireworks, all of which are just the beginning of the 17-day festival. The Sharqiah Season will feature more than 80 events in the Eastern Province cities, and it is one of the 11 festivals that are scheduled for the Kingdom in 2019.

The event is organized by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, with the General Entertainment Authority, the General Culture Authority and the General Sports Authority.

The opening night was impossible to miss, with the skies being lit with searchlights that marked the two sites of large areas that were set up on the Corniche: one for entertainment, and the other for a cultural village.

While Arabic singers Mohammed Abdo and Rashed Al-Majed entertained the crowds this past weekend, International music acts including Pitbull, Akon, Amr Diab and DJ Tiesto are set to perform next weekend.

In Dammam’s Life Park, the Montreal troupe Cirque Eloize played to a full-house on the opening night.

‘Battle of the Champions’ also took place at King Abdullah Adventure Park, a competition that brought together the top 12 skateboarders from around the world, to compete for the first position.

20 year-old Moaiyad Al-Salmi says that: “To practice on a ramp like this is a dream come true,” he also added, “We need a proper skate park built here, something that would bring the community of Saudi and non-Saudi skaters together. If we had events like this every weekend, and skate parks like this everywhere, we would find a Saudi competing for the World Series.”

Sharqiah Season is on until the 30th of March, and upcoming events include sports events such as the RedBull Air race and Formula 1 H20 boat race, as for musical concerts, performances include Akon, Amr Diab, French Monatana, Pitbull and Deadmau5.
