UAE Deploys Its First Satellite in Outer Space

The UAE’s first entirely Emirati-built satellite has successfully launched on Monday morning. KhalifaSat launched into Earth orbit from the Tanegashima Space Center on Tanegashima, a small island off the southern tip of mainland Japan.

KhalifaSat was third UAE satellite to be launched into space, after DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2. The satellite took five years to development, starting in 2013 after an announcement about the space bid by UAE Vice President and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

For the first time for the country, two astronauts from the Gulf nation are scheduled to head to the International Space Station in 2019.

Saudi Arabia to Allow Couples to Share A Hotel Room Without a Marriage Proof

The Kingdom continues to make historic reforms as it opens up to tourists and this week, the tourism authority announced a revolutionary guideline which allows foreign women and men to share a hotel room without a marriage proof.

First, women were allowed to travel without a male guardianship and now the Kingdom is easing the regulations for foreign tourists after the launch of the first tourist visa scheme, all comes in light of the 2030 Vision that aims at diversifying the economy of Saudi Arabia. 

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage stated that women can now rent a hotel room using a proof of identity only, and without the need of a male approval.

The new visa allows tourists to enter the Kingdom for 90 days and this marks the Kingdom’s first time to open up for foreigners and in doing so, the tourism sector has already contributed with a 3% to the total GDP of Saudi Arabia and with these new reforms and easing of regulations, the government aspires to push the 3% to 10% in the upcoming period.

France to Host An Exhibition Showcasing The Wonders of Al-Ula

France is set to host the first intentional exhibition entitled “AlUla: Kingdom’s Wonder” which is dedicated to showcasing the natural heritage and rich history of Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition will be held at the headquarters of the Arab World Institute (IMA) in Paris starting from October 9th to the 9th of January.

According to Jack Land, IMA’s president and former French minister of culture, the expo aims at introducing the visitors to the beauty of Al-Ula and display its unique archaeological formation and the breathtaking natural destinations.

“In partnership with the Kingdom, the exhibition will allow visitors to discover the beauty of AlUla area and its natural diversity, as well as to learn about its history and civilizations witnessed over 7,000 years through artistic works, paintings and archaeological sculptures.” He added.
