Third Edition of ‘Misk Historic Jeddah’ Returns This Ramadan

The third edition of ‘Misk Historic Jeddah‘ has launched once again this Ramadan, by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Misk Foundation.

The event is taking place from May 14th till the 20th, and will highlight Jeddah’s cultural and historical significance.

22 interactive and entertainment activities will be included during the event, in addition to a holographic play, all of which shall appeal to all segments of the society. This makes the event a great destination, for families and group outings.

Visitors will get to experience the cultural heritage of Jeddah, and learn all about the traditions of the ancient city, which affected the culture of Saudi Arabia. 

Director of the event, Abdullah Al-Khayyal, stressed on the necessity of giving a “great attention to culture, including the promotion of cultural heritage.

“This initiative contributes both cognitively and culturally to revitalizing the historic city of Jeddah, and transforming it into a tourist site suitable for all ages, to learn about the history and heritage of Saudi Arabia.” He added.

Bruno Mars Set To Perform In Abu Dhabi During NYE

The international superstar Bruno Mars is coming back to the UAE for the Resolution by Night festival to present once again an exceptional show during the New Year’s Eve as part of the event on December 31. 

The star is set to perform on Tuesday 31st of December at the du Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi to kick off the two-day event ‘Resolution by Night’ festival.

The festival also includes a family friendly event the next day on January 1st and tickets are are Dhs20 for Children 2 to 12 years old and AED50 for Adults.

Tickets for the Bruno Mars start from Dhs350 and will go on sale on September 16 and will be available at ticketmaster.ae and Virgin Megastores across the UAE.

Abu Dhabi to Launch Tolerance Film Festival

Abu Dhabi is launching their very own film festival ‘Tolerance‘ which will take place on September 12 till the 14th, where a number of films on the theme of tolerance will be screened.

The festival is held in cooperation between the German Embassy, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Cinema Space and the Goethe-Institute (German Cultural Centre), the event will also include a concert by the Emirati Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Riad Kudsi under the patronage of Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

As the name suggests, the festival will screen movies that promote peace and tolerance including, Robert Mulligan’s 1962 To Kill a Mockingbird, Exit by Karen Winther and Styx by Wolfgang Fischer.

The movies will be screened at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi and Cinema Akil in Dubai’s Al Serksal Avenue, and will also see several Arab films, including Nadine Labaki’s Where Do We Go Now?

Princess Lamia Unveiled a New Islamic Art Space at the Louvre in Paris

A new space at the Louvre Museum in Paris dedicated to Islamic art have been unveiled on Tuesday by Princess Lamia Al-Saud, the secretary general of Alwaleed Philanthropies.

The department will explore 12 centuries of Islamic art showcasing the most extensive collections of Islamic artifacts and Muslim art that date back to the 7th century to the 19th, they are 3,000 items that was gathered from Spain to India via the Arabian peninsula.

The exhibition will give visitors an introduction to Islamic art and the chance to witness the evolution of its style and form that was influenced by other artistic traditions and in return, influenced others.

In a statement, HRH Princess Lamia said, “We believe that art has a special ability to unite people of different cultures and faiths. The new and expanded spaces allow visitors to enjoy world-class Islamic art and appreciate the shared human values expressed in its creativity. Importantly, this space has also been designed to be inclusive of everyone, with interactive features to ensure the art can be experienced by all.”

 

The expansion covers two floors with the support of Alwaleed Philanthropies, which has a strong and longstanding relationship with the Louvre. The global foundation chaired by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has donated $23 million in 2005 to support the foundation of the museum’s department of Islamic art.

Jean Luc-Martinez, Louvre president, thanked Alwaleed Philanthropies “for its commitment in favor of the Islamic Arts Department.”

“Thanks to this redesign, we hope to reach even more visitors, and provide them the keys to understanding the wonderful artistic heritage with which we have been entrusted,” he added.
