New opportunities have opened for women of Saudi Arabia as the Ministry of of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) signed a understanding (MoU) this week with the Saudi Water Sports & Diving Federation (SWSDF), which agrees on bringing in more women into the sector.
The agreement will allow more women to participate and take part in water sports and diving, this comes in light of the Kingdom’s efforts to empower its women and ensure equality. This will give provide several women with job opportunities, in addition to empowering self-employment.
Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi and Prince Sultan Bin Fahd Bin Salman, chairman of the Board of Directors of SWSDF and president of the Water Sports Association, inked the MoU, regulate all work related to water sports and diving sector.
It also looks at increasing the percentage of women’s participation in both the sector and employment market.
Saudi Golf Reveals An Innovative Golf Format For the First Saudi Ladies Team International
Golf Saudi has revealed a new formal for next month’s debut of Saudi Ladies Team International, a one of a kind first tournament that will see 36 team captains recruit their players for the first time using a live ‘NFL-style’ draft system, before participating in the competition worth $500,000.
The competition will be held between the 17th-19th of November, the team contest will be the first ever points-earning Ladies European Tour event where professionals play alongside amateur golfers with team and individual scoring running concurrently.
The event will take place two days after the Kingdom’s maiden women’s golf tournament, the $1million Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by Public Investment Fund.
The Aramco Saudi Ladies International is only the second-ever international, professional women-only sports event held in the Kingdom. Players already confirmed include Major-winning Georgia Hall, Solheim Cup hero and former LET Order of Merit winner Charley Hull, Wales’ Amy Boulden and Camilla Lennarth of Sweden. More players will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Golf Saudi CEO, Majed Al Sorour, said: “The Saudi Ladies Team International is a completely new and innovative tournament format not seen before on any Tour. Alongside the LET, it is a chance to grow the women’s game in new and exciting ways – and follows the first-ever professional women’s golf event to be played Saudi Arabia earlier in the week. The players love team golf and will enjoy this unique opportunity to try a new format through our ground-breaking and exciting draft system.
“We understand the impact the pandemic has had on Tour golf this year, particularly in the women’s game, so we wanted to do everything we could around the debut Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF to benefit the players across our double header ‘golf week’ in making it competitive, fun and rewarding.” He added.
The Kingdom to Host Formula One Night Race in 2021 For the First Time
The Kingdom will host a Formula One grand prix for the first time ever next year, with the aim of attracting tourists from all over the globe and promoting for the Kingdom as a top touristic destination.
The kingdom said that it will host the race in November 2021 in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, using scenic roads along the coast.
Saudi Arabia is a country that is rapidly becoming a hub for sports and entertainment with many major events taking place there in recent years and we are very pleased that Formula One will be racing there from next season,” said F1 chairman Chase Carey in a statement.”
“The region is hugely important to us and with 70% of the population of Saudi being under 30 we are excited about the potential to reach new fans and bring our existing fans around the world exciting racing from an incredible and historic location.” He added.
Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal, President of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, hailed the race as ground-breaking.
“I firmly believe the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be the biggest sports event hosted in our country’s history and has the potential to change lives, perceptions and reach new audiences and communities like never before,” he said.
The Saudi round is expected to ultimately move to Qiddiya, a planned entertainment resort about an hour’s drive from the capital Riyadh, once a permanent circuit has been constructed.
Saudi Arabia Will Announce a New International Sporting Event
The Kingdom is set to announce a one of a kind international sporting event today, according to the Ministry of Sport.
The event will be held next year and it comes as part of the long list of sporting events that the Saudi Arabia has successfully hosted over the past two years.
The long list includes the first edition of the Dakar Rally held in Saudi Arabia in 2020, The Spanish Super Cup 2020, the WWE Super ShowDown 2020, the 2018 Ad Diriyah ePrix and the world’s richest race, the Saudi Cup, that took place at the beginning of this year.
The statement also added that the Kingdom has submitted its bid to host Asian Games 2030 and Asia football finals 2027, in light of its commitment to host the most important continental and international sports events.
