The latest Saudi movie ‘Irtidad‘ has been shortlisted for screening at the 42nd Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the movie has been proudly selected from all 9,000 submissions and 80 nominees.
The film is funded by the King Abdul Aziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and is part of the center’s efforts in developing local cinema, the movie was previously took part in the Saudi Film Days contest.
“The center supports the cinema industry in the Kingdom by recognizing invaluable talents and encouraging them to be part of the world stage.” The head of performing arts at Ithra, Majed Z. Samman said.
The film is directed by Mohamed Al-Hamoud and it explores the culture of southern regions in Saudi Arabia by following the lives of young newlyweds, who get out out of their comfort zone as they take on a trip to a far village located in the rural areas of the Kingdom.
The movie showcases the cultural shock of these women as they embark on a new adventure.
“Irtidad” has been shown at three international festivals: The Kolkata International Film Festival in India, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia and the Lublin Film Festival in Poland.
