Saudi Arabia to Welcome International Tourists By the End of 2019

The head of the Saudi Tourism and Heritage Authority, Ahmad al-Khatib announced during a meeting of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) held in Russia that Saudi Arabia will finally be welcoming international tourists before the end of 2019.

“Saudi Arabia is proud to be one of the first countries to work with the organization in the preliminary studies for the Measuring Sustainable Tourism (MST) project,” Khatib said.

This falls under the Vision 2030 set by Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman, which aims at diversifying the economy by shifting some of the attention to tourism.

The Kingdom has already been on the track of doing so by launching several seasons that shed the light of different parts of Saudi Arabia, in addition to hosting international superstars.

Now, international tourists will finally get the chance to discover the beauty and hidden gems of Saudi Arabia for the first time, and dwell on its magnificent desert and beach life as well as historical and ancient places.

Saudi Arabia to Allow Couples to Share A Hotel Room Without a Marriage Proof

The Kingdom continues to make historic reforms as it opens up to tourists and this week, the tourism authority announced a revolutionary guideline which allows foreign women and men to share a hotel room without a marriage proof.

First, women were allowed to travel without a male guardianship and now the Kingdom is easing the regulations for foreign tourists after the launch of the first tourist visa scheme, all comes in light of the 2030 Vision that aims at diversifying the economy of Saudi Arabia. 

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage stated that women can now rent a hotel room using a proof of identity only, and without the need of a male approval.

The new visa allows tourists to enter the Kingdom for 90 days and this marks the Kingdom’s first time to open up for foreigners and in doing so, the tourism sector has already contributed with a 3% to the total GDP of Saudi Arabia and with these new reforms and easing of regulations, the government aspires to push the 3% to 10% in the upcoming period.

France to Host An Exhibition Showcasing The Wonders of Al-Ula

France is set to host the first intentional exhibition entitled “AlUla: Kingdom’s Wonder” which is dedicated to showcasing the natural heritage and rich history of Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition will be held at the headquarters of the Arab World Institute (IMA) in Paris starting from October 9th to the 9th of January.

According to Jack Land, IMA’s president and former French minister of culture, the expo aims at introducing the visitors to the beauty of Al-Ula and display its unique archaeological formation and the breathtaking natural destinations.

“In partnership with the Kingdom, the exhibition will allow visitors to discover the beauty of AlUla area and its natural diversity, as well as to learn about its history and civilizations witnessed over 7,000 years through artistic works, paintings and archaeological sculptures.” He added.
