Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launches mega tourism project in Al-Ula

Published

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched on Sunday mega projects that serve tourism in the historical area Al-Ula, projects includes a resort and a nature reserve, both are named Sharaan.

The resort is designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, who designed the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The resort will be located in a valley deep inside the 925-square-kilometer Sharaan Nature Reserve; thus transforming the ancient area into a destination for international tourists.

The resort will include residential estates, a spa, a summit center and several restaurants. Constructions are to begin in early 2020, with the hope of completing the project by 2023.

As for the nature resort, the launch of this project is considered to be a part of the plan for sustainable development of the region, and was launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the governor of the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan.

The resort will help in conserving and restoring the region’s natural habitats, including the Arabian leopard. Local rangers who are trained by international experts, are going to help make this step happen.

Nouvel described the decision of launching these projects as a brave, as he said during the a presentation at the launch that, “The decision to build in this place is brave and will allow Sharaan to be revealed on a world-wide scale.”

These projects surely are keeping with the Crown Prince’s Vision of 2030, that aims at developing tourism in the Kingdom. Seeing that this sector is to play in diversifying the economy away from its dependence on oil, and thus considered to be a sustainable solution for raising the Kingdom’s economy.

The vision also aims at celebrating the national identity of the country; through the preservation of its cultural sites and giving it access. The Royal commission for Al-Ula hopes to attract 2 million visitors to the area by 2035.
