RSIFF to Launch Under the Theme ‘Changing the script’

The Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) has announced its inaugural session that will launch in March in Jeddah’s Old Town under the theme of ‘Changing the script.’

The film festival also announced the honoring of three cinematic heroes who have made so many changes in the industry and contributed a lot to the world of cinema. They are Jack Lang, former French Minister of Culture, Kim Dong-ho, founder of South Korea’s Busan Film Festival, and Daniela Michel, founding director of the Morelia International Film Festival in Mexico.

Festival director Mahmoud Sabbagh commented: “The honoring of these three legendary figures is at the heart of the Red Sea Film Festival’s goals. An appreciation of pioneers of the film industry, who contributed to unlocking artistic capabilities of their compatriots and developing cinematic masterpieces to be enjoyed for generations.”

“It coincides with the founding moment of the film industry in our country, and in honoring these individuals looks at how the introduction of similar international models can add to the dialogue establishing Saudi’s film industry.” Sabbagh added.

The theme of the festival has been chosen in a way that reflects the atmosphere of the festival and the ability of cinema in documenting social changes, the theme relates to the Kingdom in specific as it has just recently started penetrating the world of cinema ever since it has taken over several changes.

Cinema Investment in the Kingdom Hits A Significant Increase

Cinema investment in the Kingdom was expected to hit more than SR5 billion during 2020 and that is according to the latest figures, and new data published shows that 140 movie theaters are set to open in 30 malls across Saudi Arabia which will create more than 5,300 job opportunities.

These data has been published ahead of the Cinema Build KSA 2020 conference that will take place on the 19th of February until the 20th at the Fairmont hotel in Riyadh.

The event is organized by Eyes of Cities in cooperation with the Great Minds Group and is expected to witness the attendance of more than 300 participants, with at least 30 sponsors and exhibitors, and 25 international speakers.

This proves once again the significant growth in the Saudi cinema industry and that it is on the verge of becoming the leader in the region, seeing how it’s attracting the attention of stakeholders.

This falls under the goals of the 2030 Vision that aims at increasing the household spending on domestic entertainment from 2.9% to 6% of total expenditure.

According to the Cinema Build KSA report, supporting and developing the cinema sector will not only help recover Saudi investments but will also provide thousands of job opportunities with an estimation of 5,314 job vacancies.

Saad Lamjarred and Mohamed Ramadan Teams up For A concert in Dubai

Superstars Saad Lamjarred and Mohammed Ramadan are set to perform together in their first ever joint concert taking place in Dubai on January 10th.

The Moroccan popstar and Egyptian actor/ singer will perform together next Friday the 10th of January at the Dubai World Trade Centre, in celebration of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

This will be Lamjarred’s first appearance in the UAE after 4 years of absence, his last was back in 2015 when he performed alongside Lebanese singer Najwa Karam in Abu Dhabi’s Du Forum.
